2v2 RULES & REGULATIONS

PRE-GAME

All games may start and be completed with any number of players (2,1)

Both teams will warm-up at the same time prior to the start of the game

Only teams scheduled to play are allowed to occupy the court at the scheduled time.

Teams must arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of their games.

OFFICIAL’S RESPONSIBILITIES

The official will call all fouls and violations

One official will be assigned to each court.

The official has absolute authority to control play on his/her court, including the right to ‘sit’ a player for a period of time and/or eject a player from the tournament. Higher authority cannot change the judgment decisions of the official.

TIME LIMIT/SCORING

A field goal is worth 1 point.

A successful goal from behind a designated line is worth 2 points. The player must have both feet completely behind the line when initiating the attempt.

Scoring: First team to 15 points by 2 or more or 20 points straight.

All games will have a 25-minute time limit. Official starting time will be recorded by the official. The clock will only be stopped during timeouts – regular or injury.

The team leading at the end of 25 minutes will be declared the winner.

If the game is tied after 25 minutes of play and no team has reached the required number of points to win the game, the official will flip a coin to determine team possession. The first team to score will win the game.

TIME-OUTS & SUBSTITUTIONS

Each team is allowed one (1) one minute time-out per game.

If play is stopped by a teammate of the official to attend to an obvious injury, the injured player must sit out at least until the next dead ball.

Player substitution is permitted during any dead ball situation.

GAME RULES

A coin flip before the start of the game will determine who gets the ball out-of-bounds first.

The ball will change possession after each scored basket.

Jump balls will be called by the official and will go to the defense.

The top, bottom and sides of the backboard are in play; however, the back of the backboard and the support structure of the basket are not in play.

The ball must be checked by an opposing player before it is put into play. The player must pass the ball in while standing out-of-bounds at the top of the court to begin play.

All fouls and violations will be played out-of-bounds at the top of the court.

A ball out-of-bounds will be taken out at the top of the court.

The ball must be “taken back” to the marked line on the court on every change of possession (both feet and the ball must be taken behind the back line). Violation occurs onll if a basket is made by the team failing to properly “take it back” and will result in loss of point scored and possession will go to the other team.

When taking the ball out-of-bounds, a player shall have ten (10) seconds to put the ball into play. A player shall also have ten (10) seconds to initiate any free throw attempt.

FOULS AND FREE THROWS

When the basket is made and a foul is called, count the basket, shoot the free throw and, made or missed, possession goes to the other team.

When the basket is missed and a foul is called, if the free throw is made, possession goes to the defensive team. If the free throw is missed, the offensive team retains possession. Only one free throw is allowed, even if the shooting foul occurs behind the 2 point line.

On and after the 7th team foul, free throws will be attempted.

If a foul is committed as time runs out, a free throw will be awarded to the fouled player.

All fee throws are dead balls.

FREE THROW OPTION – The shooter may choose to shoot from the free throw line for one point or the top of the key (behind the 2 point line) for two points. If the 2 point shot is chosen, the defensive team takes possession following the shot, regardless of the outcome of the shot.

TECHNICAL FOULS

The official may assess a technical foul for any misconduct, flagrant or intentional foul committed by a player.

Penalty: Choice between two free throws from the free throw line (1 point each) or two shots from behind the three point line (2 points each).

The team captain chooses the shooter.

The offended team will retain possession after the penalty.

MISCELLANEOUS

The team captain is always the team spokesperson. Not a coach, parent, spectator or other player.
