San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. With campuses in Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego, we provide animal services for 12 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities, but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities. While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.

The Triton Food Pantry helps support wellness and academic success among all UC San Diego students. The Triton Food Pantry arose as a response to survey data demonstrating that approximately 25% of UC San Diego students skip meals somewhat to very often in order to save money (UCUES, 2014). Staff and student leaders felt this was unacceptable, and thus the concept of a Triton Food Pantry was quickly developed. The pantry opened winter quarter during the 2014-2015 academic year to help combat food insecurity and malnutrition. We want students to know they have a free and discreet service they are able to utilize without judgment or discrimination. The Triton Food Pantry strives to work towards serving students in need of food. This service is supported by Associated Students UC San Diego.

About the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank: The Food Bank feeds 400,000 people per month in partnership with more than 400 nonprofit community partners including: food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, low-income daycare centers, senior centers, churches, schools, and day centers for the elederly and disabled. The Food Bank’s nonprofit partners collect food from its 80,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Miramar and distribute the food directly to people in need in their local communities. By acting as a central distribution point and through its own direct distributions the Food Bank and its nonprofit partners provide food to communities throughout the county’s 4,200 square mile radius. In the fiscal year 2014 – 2015, the Food Bank distributed 22 million pounds of food – the equivalent of 18.3 million meals.

Established in 2007, Feeding San Diego (FSD) is the leading hunger-relief organization in the county, providing 21.2 million meals within the last year, and the only Feeding America a liate in the region. Feeding San Diego provides food and resources to a network of more than 225 distribution partners serving 63,000 children, families and seniors each week. Focused on healthy food, education and advocacy, Feeding San Diego is building a hunger- free and healthy San Diego through innovative programs and collaborative partnerships.
